Summer learning is different. Students see the sunshine. They want to move their bodies. They have an itch to run, explore, and have fun. Teaching students the same way you do during the school year is only going to lead to restless learners.
Instead, lean into their wants and needs with these three tips:
Take learning outside. Exposure to sunlight is shown to improve memory, extend attention, and be a mood booster.
Get students moving. Research shows active learning has a positive impact on learner outcomes.
Incorporate something they love into lessons. Connect what you’re teaching to how it would be used in the real world. Contextual references increase retention and subject interest.
